Microenterprise Assistance Grant Program

The Microenterprise Assistance Grant Program is funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, will make up to $2 million available to help local businesses impacted by COVID-19.  This program will provide grant funding to qualified microenterprises that have lost revenue or incurred additional costs because of COVID-19.   Applications will be accepted beginning September 1st at 9 a.m. through September 30th at 11:59 a.m. 

To qualify as a microenterprise, you must be a commercial enterprise that has five (5) or fewer employees, one or more whom owns the enterprise at the time of receiving assistance and the owner(s) must have an annual household income at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI) as stated in the chart below.

Program guidelines and grant amounts vary based on business location.  If a business received grant funding through Macomb County already, they are eligible to apply for this program, as long as the previous grant money was not used for these expenses. Please review your community guidelines before completing an application:

A complete application must include:

 

Who is eligible?

  • Business must be located in Macomb County – includes homebased businesses (varies by community) and 1099 contractors
  • Employs no more than 5 employees (including the owners) AND the owner’s household income may not exceed 80% AMI based on household size 
  • Business must be able to verify that they have been negatively impacted by COVID-19
  • Must be a for-profit organization
  • Business must have a valid Employer Identification Number (EIN)
  • Business must have registered in the System for Award Management 
  • Business must showcase a verifiable need for working capital to support payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses, and/or other expenses that occur in the ordinary course of business

Who is ineligible?

  • Those businesses located outside of Macomb County
  • Business with more than 5 employees
  • Business owner’s with income that exceeds the program maximum
  • Marijuana related businesses (prohibited use of federal funds)
  • Businesses that are excluded from receiving federal contracts (debarred)
